It is commonly believed that Okinawan farming and fishing tools evolved into lethal weapons of self-defense when the Satsuma samurai clan forbade the peasants from carrying arms.

The hanbo is a middle-length wood or bamboo stick about 3 feet in length. It is believed to have been derived from a walking stick, the handle of a rake or shovel, or from half of a bo staff.

This video is an ideal teaching aid for review, rank testing, competition, and self defense.
